What’s more, almond milk can contribute to your intake of added sugars if you’re buying a sweetened variety, whereas the sugar in cow’s milk is completely natural and nothing to fret about.Īll in all, unless you’re allergic or intolerant to dairy, I’d always recommend reduced-fat cow’s milk over the kind made from almonds. Almond milk is also lacking in many of the key micronutrients found in milk, although you can get some with added calcium – so it’s highly advisable to check the label and look for at least 100mg calcium per 100mL. Skim milk also has 419 mg of potassium, only 5 mg. While almond milk has a similar energy content to skim cow’s milk, it has far less protein, which helps you to feel full and is key for muscle growth. A cup, or 8 oz., of skim milk is packed with 8.7 g of protein, 12.3 g of carbohydrates and 349 mg of calcium. But once you dig a little deeper, the story isn’t what it seems. It’s a lighter option made with the goodness of nuts. On face value, I can see why people may think almond milk is healthier. In fact, some leading brands of almond milk are only three to four per cent almonds (yikes!). Of course, almonds are a super healthy food brimming with heart-healthy fats and fibre – but you’re not actually getting many almonds per glass. Put simply, it’s the result of almonds that have been soaked in water and then blitzed up. What might surprise you is the way almond milk is actually made. ![]() You’re probably already well aware that dairy foods are rich in bone-strengthening calcium, but they also provide many other nutrients like Vitamin B12 for blood and nervous system function, Vitamin A to support healthy eyes and potassium to keep hearts pumping. For a clear comparison, whole milk has the following profile per 244-gram cup: 146 calories, 11.4g carbohydrate, 7.81g fat, and 8g protein ( 7 ). In terms of macronutrients, you’re getting about 700 kilojoules (170 calories), 8.5 grams of protein, 5.5 grams of saturated fat and 15 grams of sugar for one cup of a full cream variety. As we can see, all varieties of evaporated milkeven skim evaporated milkcontain more calories, carbohydrates, and protein than regular whole milk. Skim milkįirstly, let’s start with regular cow’s milk. So, to give you some perspective, I’m going to walk you through the pros and cons of each and give the final verdict on which is better. The former being full of sugar, and the latter being sooo much better for you – right?! Well, your personal trainer might say so, but that’s not necessarily true. Fast forward to 2019 and the milk fridge at your local supermarket seems to expand every time you visit it, which makes the seemingly simple task of buying milk more and more confusing.Īs a dietitian, two of the most common types of milk I get asked about are regular skim milk and almond ‘milk’. As soon as the plane hit 10,000 feet, I logged onto the Wi-Fi and I got a tweet from him that said, “Are you going to say hello or what?” I didn’t know what that meant, but then I looked over to my right and all of a sudden realized he was on my fucking plane! He said, “I thought that was you.” I left him alone during the flight, because he was with his family, but once we get off the flight we took a picture together. One time I was on a plane, and before I took off I’d tweeted Anthony pictures from restaurants that he’d also gone to. Andy Milonakis’ tattoo of Anthony Bourdain. Getting to follow in his footsteps and go to some of the same restaurants he’d been to in different places around the world was really cool. The first episode of No Reservations was about Paris, and I didn’t go to Paris for probably eight years after that episode aired, but I still wanted to go to the places he visited. That’s why everybody loved that show – because they wanted to be there with him in those destinations. It was so appealing because Anthony Bourdain was not your typical cheesy travel host, he was a wise guy, New Yorker ex-junkie who was really poetic. I started watching No Reservations right from when it first aired in 2005. It’s a great way to go through life, getting to experience the world a bit instead of just staying home. I’ve been to a lot of different countries and while I’m out there exploring, I feel like I’m learning. Music can have real legs, even on an amateur level. If I do a livestream, or a comedy bit, on the other hand, probably not a lot of people will be thinking about it in the future. Not every song I put out is going to be well received or get a lot of listens, but the staying power of music is crazy because I can spend two or three hours making a song or a little rap verse and then some people will still be mentioning it more than a decade later. I’m loosely inspired by my love of New York rappers, but I inject my own sense of humor into the lyrics. I did that for a while, but when I moved to Los Angeles and I went to a couple of studios, I discovered how fun it is to write a song and record it, and learned the process of making hooks, layering vocals and all that stuff. Initially, I never thought about rapping myself (besides reciting the songs I was listening to), but then I started making videos of myself acting stupid and I thought trying to freestyle badly would be funny. I had a boombox and I listened to old-school rappers. I grew up in an area of New York where there was a lot of low-income housing and at the time everything around there was hip-hop. (Long-term chronic tendonitis sufferer here.) I’ve tried a bunch, and really like the Logitech M557, for the way it feels in my hand. I’m personally a fan of simplicity with my mouse. (Not so much for the original poster, who answered this question, but for others.) Which device do you have, and how advanced is your usage? If the device does what you want without the Logitech software, then don’t install it. When I used Logitech mice I ended up managing all the gesture buttons and wheel controls with Steermouse, and I liked additional unique features like being able to snap the cursor to specific areas (eg close button), and you could make fine-grained adjustments to scroll speed and acceleration That’s why alternative drivers like Steermouse and USB Overdrive exist. But I used Logitech MX Master mice for many, many years before going Magic Trackpad, and the Logitech Control Center software was always problematic. If the included Logitech software finally works without freezing, or causing skips or kernel panics - all things it did for over a decade - then I congratulate them for finally getting their act together. Logitech software is used to define what mouse buttons can do – far more options than Apple software provides, though you could probably cobble together other configuration methods with BTT perhaps. ![]() ![]() ![]() Seamless Black & White Chili Pepper Pattern Thanks to this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create an interesting cubical pattern in Illustrator.
